Destruction and corruption are beautiful forms of creation in themselves.
forspoken is another square enix-luminous studios action-based game with a lotta lore!
it follows the story of frey holland, a new yorker who finds herself transported to the magical
and strange world of athia. she's stuck with a weird entity in the form of a 'cuff' (he prefers
vambrace) and begins to gain a grasp over the magical powers she can now use.
i have a lot of love for this game and its' combat and traversal system. it's lore is very much
focused on how a world falls apart and the bonds that connect us in a way that's incredibly
grounded and realistic (to me). frey is such a brilliant protagonist who acts and reacts to the
world of athia in such an earth-human way and develops and grows into herself in a beautiful way
- it's hard for me to do anything but love her.
pros | cons |
---|---|
interesting and fast-paced combat system | unfortunately not well-balanced for performance + still kinda buggy on pc |
detailed and connected world lore throughout the open world | the world is so open that it does sometimes feel empty :( |
such a cool equipment+upgrades system (cloaks, necklaces and nail polish!!) | |
characters that feel very real and very grounded in themselves and their actions |
okay fun tibids to share with you:
number one - in the original concepts, frey and cuff weren't 'stuck' together - he could
actually unbind himself from her, at least for short periods of time. you can see it in the
concept art!
number two - susurrus (don't worry about who that is for now) is a metal man-demon made up
of various metal birds. interestingly, susurrus has the meaning of a whisper or a murmur - which
is exactly what a flock of birds are called.
number three - also a susurrus fact. the audio files that make up his movements are starling
birds!
number four - there was talk (and plans!) for a sequel, especially with the reveals in the
'In Tanta We Trust' DLC, but it's still a rumour if it will go forward, now that Luminous has
been reabsorbed by SE.
have you ever heard a guys' voice and thought, 'wow, i hate him. i need to beat him up. he's too
funny for his own good. he's also probably evil but we'll ignore that red flag for now.'
you should not ignore that red flag. that being said, i have so much love for susurrus as a
character, as a foil for frey, as a weapon who has no choice, as a being who wants to be more than
he is and was.
